"You make the night to pass into the day and You make the day to pass into the night, and You bring forth the living from the dead and You bring forth the dead from the living, and You give sustenance to whom You please without measure." She squatted by the mound, closed her eyes. Give sustenance, Allah. Give sustenance to me.
A Thousand Splendid Sun

Struggled to live and yet love move her to act stronger in unexpected ways.  Beautiful female sadness insight Afghanistan's cultural. An authentic book.

This is the story of two women, Mariam and Laila in real life in Afghanistan.

Fifteen years old Mariam married with forty-five years old man, a widower. The background of Mariam, is an illegitimate child of a wealthy man.

Laila, finding herself with 6 weeks pregnant with her boyfriend. She hears of the demise of her boyfriend. Laila agrees to marry Mariam's husband.

This book has a way playing with human emotions. It is not too predictable and you may ask yourself what was happen next and next until the end.
